This popular session discussed how stations might prepare for the challenges of reduced state funding, fluctuating corporate and foundation support or other scenarios unique to individual stations. Scenario planning is one way to examine and describe several different potential options and see what their effect would be on the station. Learning objectives include:

  • Value of using scenario planning in decision-making
  • Understanding of appropriate applications for scenario planning
  • Sound and usable approaches for developing scenarios, including assumptions, development and projections

Patti Dodgen and Dale Emerson also presented a pre-conference workshop entitled The Balanced Scorecard. This full day seminar explained the strategies behind using a balanced scorecard approach to evaluating the progress of your station. A Balanced Scorecard approach uses a carefully selected set of measures derived from the organization's strategy. It is a tool for leaders to use in communicating to stakeholders the outcome and performance drivers by which the organization will achieve its mission and strategy.*
